The chairman and managing director, NHPC and THDC, R K Vishnoi called upon the Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Wednesday. After the meeting was over, he informed that he had laid emphasis on the need for development of mega hydro projects for harnessing the vast untapped hydropower potential in the UT.
He further informed that in view of the Centre having set an ambitious target of attaining net zero carbon emission norm by 2070, the UT with total hydropower potential of some 20 Gigawatt could play a significant role in this mission. He added that the Lt Governor had assured him of all support from the UT administration in exploring and harnessing new hydro projects.
