Weather clears after 48 hours of snowfall & rain

After about two days of snowfall in the higher reaches and rain in other parts of the State, the snowfall and rain stopped in the State past Monday afternoon. The weather is likely to remain clear for the next few days. The State meteorological centre has forecast that dry weather is likely to prevail in the districts of State on Tuesday. The meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (

(Watch) regarding the possibility of ground frost likely to occur at isolated places in the mountainous regions of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky with mist likely to occur during the morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and seven degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Monday were 18.2 degrees Celsius and 10.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 22.3 degrees Celsius and 12.2 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 10 degrees Celsius and 1.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 7.1 degrees Celsius and 1.4 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was trace rainfall in Dehradun, Pantnagar, Mukteshwar and New Tehri while light rainfall was recorded in Bharsar, Yamkeshwar and a few other places.

Meanwhile, in high altitude regions the snowfall stopped on Monday afternoon. At Auli near Joshimath in Chamoli district, there is about two feet of snow has. The national highway to Badirnath is closed due to snow ahead of Hanumanchatti.
