500-bed Covid care centre opened at IDPL-Rishikesh

Chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat inaugurated a 500-bed temporary Covid care centre set up by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at IDPL, Rishikesh on Wednesday. All the beds in this facility are oxygen supported and a 100-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has also been facilitated.

In addition to this, the facility has separate wards for patients of mucormycosis (black fungus) and children. In the ward for children, an isolation area has been set up also for breast-feeding mothers. According to officials, the DRDO built this facility in a period of two weeks. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh will handle the clinical management of this Covid care centre. The chief minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence minister Rajnath Singh for the establishment of this facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Rawat said that the State government is taking all possible steps for effective control on Covid. The health facilities in the state have been stepped up at a swift pace with there being adequate provision of oxygen, ventilators, ICUs and oxygen supported beds. Soon, a 500-bed Covid care centre will be ready in Haldwani too. He further said that the facility at IDPL Rishikesh has been named after Mahavir Chakra recipient rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat who had displayed exemplary courage during the 1962 India-China war and attained martyrdom.

Vidhan Sabha speaker and Rishikesh MLA, Prem Chand Agrawal, Soldier Welfare minister Ganesh Joshi, Rishikesh mayor Anita Mamgai and  AIIMS, Rishikesh director Dr Ravikant along with officials of DRDO and others were also present on the occasion.
