Local shopkeepers invested cautiously on crackers this year: Masson

In a meeting of the representatives of Doon Valley Mahanagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal (DVMUVM) with the district authorities on Monday, the authorities have allowed the shopkeepers to put their display in the stands before their shops on the occasion of Diwali only till November 15 as according to the officials, the administration will not entertain any kind of encroachment in the marketplaces. This was informed by the president of DVMUVM, Pankaj Masson after the meeting of his association with deputy inspector general Arun Mohan Joshi and the city magistrate Kusum Chauhan. According to him, many shopkeepers put decorative items on display every year during Diwali in front of their shops but after the anti-encroachment drive, the shopkeepers were reluctant to extend their shops temporarily this time.

However, Masson informed that authorities have allowed them to extend their shops and put the items on display till November 15. He also informed that the city magistrate has also commenced issuing the license for selling crackers. According to him, there are around only 200 applications for the license this time as shopkeepers believe that there will be less sale of crackers this year. Considering this, most of the shopkeepers invested their money on crackers cautiously, added Masson. He further informed that all the places including Moti Bazaar, Paltan Bazaar to Clock Tower area and Hanuman Chowk which were restricted for selling crackers last year too are restricted for selling crackers this year too. However, the sale of crackers will not be extended after Diwali as per the instructions of the authorities, stated Masson.
