In a major action on corruption and examination related malpractices, the Uttarakhand police on Monday suspended 20 Sub-inspectors (SI). As per the investigation of the vigilance department, these officers were able to get jobs by use of unfair means in the Police Sub-inspector recruitment examinations of 2015-16.
The additional director general (ADG) of police, Law and Order, V Murugesan said that vigilance department has marked 20 such sub-inspectors across the State so far in its preliminary investigation who have allegedly cheated in the Uttarakhand Police SI recruitment 2015-16. He said that the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar has ordered to keep the 20 sub-inspectors suspended till the department completes its investigation. The 20 suspended sub inspectors include seven SIs from Udham Singh Nagar, five from Dehradun, four from Nainital and one each from Pauri, Chamoli and Champawat and one from SDRF. It is also being said that over 40 sub-inspectors are suspected to cheat in the 2015 recruitment examination. The vigilance department is also reportedly verifying the documents of educational qualification of accused as many are suspected of producing fake documents during their recruitment. The ADG said that the vigilance department has been working on various angles of the case and appropriate action would also be taken in future as per the evidence gathered during the investigation. The scam in the Police SI recruitment conducted by Pantnagar University in 2015 came to light during the Special Task Force’s probe into the Uttarakhand Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (UKSSSC) graduate level recruitment examination leak case last year. The STF’s investigation revealed that the question paper was allegedly leaked to some candidates before the Police SI recruitment examination. The authorities have also been suspecting tampering with the OMR sheets of some candidates too. The State administration handed over the investigation to the vigilance department to probe the matter in August. The State administration had also approved the department to register a case against the accused in the SI recruitment case in October. Murugesan said that the investigation is underway and arrests will be made soon as per the law.
