In latest news from Dehradun, two border villages included in the Vibrant Village list in Uttarakhand may be removed from the list as these are now deserted. The State government has already sent the proposal in this matter to the Union home ministry.  If the Union home ministry nods, the number of vibrant villages will come down to 49 from 51. Then, the action plan involving Rs 1200 crore would be used in the development of 49 Vibrant Villages. Notably, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Vibrant Village project for the border villages of the State and the Union home ministry is executing it. The 51 villages were selected from among the border villages in Chamoli and Pithoragarh districts.  One of the two villages to be removed from the list is located in Chamoli district which got deserted after an avalanche hit it. And the other is in Pithoragarh district and it is unpopulated because it falls within the jurisdiction of reserve forest.

Sharing these details, the nodal officer of Vibrant Village Neetika Khandelwal said that the proposal to remove these two villages from the list has been sent to the Union ministry of home affairs and they were awaiting its response. Separate action plan has been framed for each vibrant village, Khandelwal added.
