A 10 year old boy was killed by a leopard in Pali village about 10 kilometres from Gangolihat in Pithoragarh district on Tuesday evening. Gokul alias Ganesh along with his 13-year-old sister, was bringing goods from the shop 300 metres away from the house. About 100 metres from the shop a leopard laying in ambush attacked the boy. The screams of his sister brought locals to the spot but by that time, the boy had been wounded fatally and the leopard had gone into the bushes.
Shortly after receiving information about the incident the team of forest department under the leadership of forest ranger Manoj Sanwal, police team led by police station in-charge Dinesh Ballabh and revenue sub-inspector Vijay Pant reached the spot, The body was sent to Pithoragarh for post-mortem. Locals point out that a year ago, a five-year old child had been killed by a leopard and before that an eight year old had been killed by the big cat. The people have been demanding declaration of the leopard as a man-eater, a demand which was reiterated after the latest incident.
