Women not safe in BJP ruled states: Suryakant Dhasmana

To express its anger over the heinous rape and murder of a nine year old girl in Haridwar recently, the Uttarakhand Congress organised a state-wide protest on Friday. In Dehradun the workers of Congress party led by Vice President Surya Kant Dhasmana held a vehement protest at Balliwala Chowk of the city and burned the effigy of the state government.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhasmana said that the daughters are not safe in the regimes of Narendra Modi and Trivendra Singh Rawat. He said that the number of crimes against the women in BJP ruled states are increasing rapidly. He alleged that the perpetrators of crime against women have the patronage of those in power. Dhasmana said whether it was the case involving Swami Chinmyanand or the case of Kuldeep Singh Senger, the criminals had the support of BJP leaders and the police remained a mute spectator. Launching an attack on the Trivendra Singh Rawat government of Uttarakhand, the Congress leader said that the rape and murder case of a girl in Uttarkashi, heinous burning alive of a young woman in Pauri and the case involving the former general secretary organisation of BJP Sanjay Kumar prove that the modesty and lives of women are not safe in Uttarakhand under the BJP government. He said that the allegation of sexual exploitation of the BJP MLA, Mahesh Negi proves that the slogan of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ is mere rhetoric.

Many workers and leaders of the party took part in the agitation.
