Woman found positive for Omicron in Doon

A 23-year old woman residing at Kanwali Road has been found positive for Omicron hypermutated coronavirus strain in Dehradun. Health services director general Dr Tripti Bahuguna informed that the lady had arrived from Scotland in New Delhi on December 8 and her sample was taken at the Indira Gandhi international airport there but her RT-PCR report was negative. She travelled by car to reach her parents in Dehradun on the same evening. On being asked by the IDCP unit of the CMO office, she gave her sample to SRL lab on December 11 and according to the lab report the sample was found positive on the next day. In isolation since then, she has been directed to remain in home isolation for 14 days. Dr Bahuguna informed that the IDSP unit in Delhi has also confirmed the omicron variant in the lady. She appealed to the public to not panic but to strictly observe Covid appropriate behaviour.

Meanwhile, 27 new cases of the disease were reported in the state on Wednesday.The active cases of the disease are now in ten out of 13 districts of the state.

The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,44,658 while a total of 3,30,869 patients have recovered from the disease so far.  A total of 7,415 patients of the disease have so far died in the state. The recovery percentage from the disease is at 96 per cent while the sample positivity rate on Wednesday was 0.15 per cent. 

The state health department reported 10 new patients from Udham Singh Nagar, nine from Dehradun, two each from Haridwar, Nainital and Tehri while one each from Almora and Pithoragarh on Wednesday.  No new patient was reported from the remaining districts on the day.

 The state now has 185 active cases of Covid-19. Dehradun with 63 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Udham Singh Nagar has 33 active cases of the disease. Bageshwar, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi now have no active cases of the disease.

 In the ongoing vaccination drive 46,407 people were vaccinated in 984 sessions in the state held on Wednesday.
