RaGa expresses concern on Joshimath situation

Holds discussions with geologists & environmentalists on Joshimath situation during his Bharat Jodo Yatra

The former president of Congress party Rahul Gandhi held discussions with the leading geologists and environmentalists during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra on Sunday. He interacted with the Shekhar Pathak, BS Butola and Prakash Upadhayaya during the Yatra and sought suggestions from them to save Joshimath. Giving information, the vice president organisation Mathura Dutt Joshi said that the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara and senior leader Manish Khanduri played a key role in arranging the meeting of Gandhi with scientists. He said that Gandhi expressed his deep concern on the Joshimath disaster triggered by the land subsidence in Joshimath and said that immediate steps should be taken to save the city having historical and religious significance and rehabilitation of affected people should be ensured. Gandhi said that the current situation of Joshimath is quite horrifying. Interacting with PCC president Mahara, the former president of Congress exhorted the party workers to provide every possible help for the disaster affected people. Joshi said that the geologists and the environmentalists also expressed their concern on the Joshimath situation and suggested that major construction works and digging of tunnels in the area around Joshimath should be immediately stopped. PCC president Mahara and senior leader Manish Khanduri expressed gratitude to Rahul Gandhi for understanding the pain of the people of Joshimath.
