USACS holds voluntary blood donation camp for women

The Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society (USACS) and National Health Mission, PCPNDT Cell jointly organised a voluntary blood donation camp to mark International Women’s Day on Monday. The NHM director Dr Saroj Naithani inaugurated the event in which women personnel from various organisations and girl students from different institutions participated. Of the total 59 persons who had registered, 14 donated blood on the occasion.

The women who had not completed 28 days after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine and those whose haemoglobin level was less than 12.5 did not donate blood in the camp. The health director general Dr Tripti Bahuguna, NHM mission director Savin Bansal and other officials were also present on the occasion.  The medical team from the government Doon medical college hospital collected units of the donated blood in the camp.

According to officials, at present only about three per cent women are blood donors. Considering this, the voluntary blood donation camp was organised on international women’s day to raise awareness on voluntary blood donation among women and increase their participation in such activities.
