URM to protest outside ECI office

Friday, 24 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

To protest against delay in allocation of election symbol, the Uttarakhand Raksha Morcha (URM) will sit on dharna outside the Election Commission of India from December 28. URM president VK Bahuguna wrote to chief election commissioner Sushil Chandra seeking his immediate intervention in allocation of symbol to URM for the ensuing assembly elections in Uttarakhand. The party had applied for the symbol on October 5 and despite following all due procedure and providing necessary documents, the symbol has not been allocated yet. An under secretary informed that the symbol will be allocated after January 14, 2022. Bahuguna said, “It is unacceptable for the ECI to take this stand in our party’s case when it has already issued symbols by November end to all others in Uttarakhand. It is surprising that URM is being micro-managed solely to delay symbol allocation to us which is highly undemocratic high handedness.”
