The Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) will organise a child labour rescue programme from November 20 which will conclude on December 10. State coordinator of BBA Suresh Uniyal informed that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has instructed the BBA and the district task forces to carry out the rescue programme. The primary objective of the programme is to free children from child labour and provide them with better career opportunities. The said programme will commence on November 20 which will later conclude on December 10, he added.

He further informed that the programme in Uttarakhand will commence on the aforementioned date and will be managed by the district task force. The district labour commissioner will prepare a schedule and route map for the programme. As per the instructions of the labour commissioner, BBA along with the district task force will conduct sudden inspections at various locations across the state, he added.

Uniyal emphasised that the programme’s primary focus on child labour is in four districts of the state- Dehradun, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. These four districts have a higher likelihood of child labour, he added.

The state coordinator of BBA has stated that if any child is found to be involved in child labour, they will be taken directly to the child welfare committee. After a proper counselling session, the child will be handed over to their parents. The coordinator emphasised that the relevant authorities will ensure proper follow-up with the parents to prevent them from sending their children back to child labour.

It is pertinent to mention that recently, following the direction of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) BBA rescued three children from child labour in the Tyagi Road area of Dehradun.
