U’khand signs MoU with BPCL for harnessing solar power

With an objective of giving an impetus to the renewable energy sector in the state, the Uttarakhand government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). The MoU was signed by Power secretary R Meenkashi Sundaram on behalf of Uttarakhand government, chief general manager, renewable energy, Shaily Abraham and executive director Amit Garg from BPCL in presence of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the CM’s residence on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion Dhami said that the MoU would help in growth of renewable energy sector especially solar energy in the state. He said that tourism and energy sectors are two basic pillars of development of the state.  The CM said that due to economic development the demand for power from industries and the domestic sector is increasing in the state. The state government is working hard to ensure that Uttarakhand becomes an energy surplus state and for this focus on solar energy is being done.

Dhami said that simplification of processes is the top priority of his government as it would result in more investment in the state. He opined that the state should adopt a professional approach and for the development of the state a balance between economy and ecology is needed.

Expressing gratitude towards BPCL for coming forward in the solar energy sector, the CM said that every possible cooperation would be provided to the company. He directed the senior officers of the power sector to ensure that necessary changes are made in the energy policy of the state. He said that every possible help should be extended to the institutions and entrepreneurs interested to work in the solar energy sector.

The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of BPCL, Arun Kumar Singh said that the BPCL would help in the development of renewable energy in Uttarakhand. He asserted that there is no dearth of resources and talent and we should contribute to the progress of the nation by mutual cooperation and coordination. Singh thanked the CM of Uttarakhand for the MoU.

The additional chief secretary Radha Raturi, director BPCL Sukhmal Jain, state head BPCL Mihir Joshi, additional secretaries Ranjana, Iqbal Ahmed and others were present on the occasion.
