The Dehradun police succeeded in arresting all three men who had attempted an armed robbery in a jewellery shop in Vikasnagar on Sunday. The shop owner resisted the robbers and thwarted their attempt to rob the shop. One of the robbers- Navin Saini, was nabbed by the public at the scene while the other two managed to escape from the scene. The police sprung into action and after an elaborate operation managed to nab the other two.

After receiving information about the robbery attempt, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh directed the police to ensure that the culprits are not able to escape out of the district. He also left for the scene of the crime. The owner of New Rana Jewellers, Sanjeev Rana lodged a complaint, on the basis of which the police registered a case. The police came to know that a notorious criminal from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh was involved in the crime.

Due to the checking and the siege laid by the police, the criminals were not able to escape from the Vikasnagar area. The police were checking travellers near the Asan barrage at Dhalipur when the culprits fired at the police team. The police retaliated in self defence, hitting Jahangir Ali and Saurabh Kashyap in the leg. The police then took the injured duo by a private vehicle to a hospital for treatment. The police informed that illegal firearms were recovered from the accused. Ali is a notorious criminal with a bounty of Rs 25,000 on his capture. Both Ali and Kashyap are booked in more than 25 cases of loot, dacoity and other serious crimes in Saharanpur.

According to the police, Ali along with his accomplices had committed two robberies during the past 15 days in Saharanpur.
