Thunderstorms with lightning & gusty winds likely in six districts today

The rainy weather is expected to continue for the rest of this week in the State. The maximum temperatures in Dehradun and other places have dropped by four to six degrees Celsius and are expected to remain below the normal due to the changed weather.

The State meteorological centre has issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Almora districts on Friday. Further, light to moderate rain/thunderstorm/snowfall is likely to occur at a few places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh and Almora districts and at isolated places in remaining mountainous districts of the State. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the plains of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness mainly clear to partly cloudy skies with thunder cloud development likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 33 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Thursday were 31.9 degrees Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 34 degrees Celsius and 20.9 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22.1 degrees Celsius and 11.7 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 23.5 degrees Celsius and 11.5 degrees Celsius respectively in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was witnessed in some areas with 19.5 millimetres in Syunsi, six millimetres each in Betalghat and Karnprayag, five millimeters in Dunda and 3.5 millimetres in Uttarkashi.
