The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun has started the implementation of telemedicine programme of Uttarakhand Health Systems Development Project (UKHDP) and National Health Mission (NHM) with hub and spoke model. On Saturday all the specialist doctors were given training about handling the new software and App. The GDMC would act as a hub for 100 Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Community Health Centre (CHC) of Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri and Uttarkashi districts.
The Principal GDMC Dehradun, Dr Ashutosh Sayana said Telemedicine will ensure better care at the periphery and decrease referral load to tertiary care hospitals. He further added that it will be more beneficial than the e -Sanjeevni model since the Medical Officer at PHC/CHC will help in monitoring vitals and also help in correlating examinations with history of presenting complaints.
The Associate Professor Ophthalmology and Nodal Officer Telemedicine, Dr Sushil Ojha said the Telemedicine facility will be very helpful owing to difficult geographical terrain and weather conditions of the predominantly mountainous state.
The Medical superintendent of GDMC hospital, Dr K C Pant, said that during the pandemic of Covid-19 he has done more than 1700 OPD consultations on E Sanjeevni portal. He said with the new Telemedicine software medical officers will get more clinically relevant information for the diagnosis of the disease and its management.
