Tap water connections to all households in Doon before 2026 under AMRUT 2.0

All households of urban areas in Dehradun will be provided with tap water connections from April under the scheme Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0). The installation of water meters has also commenced in Hathibadkala as an initiative for proper water management under this scheme.These projects of the scheme will be run under the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) through which, sewer lines will also be installed across the city to connect all households with sewerage treatment. The nodal officer of the scheme Ashish Kathaith informed that septage management system will also be adopted as per the geographical situations of the places, especially the rural areas. He said that septage management system means safe containment of human excreta in an onsite sanitation system, regular evacuation of faecal sludge and septage and transport to a sludge treatment plant. He said that this system is mostly adopted in situations like terrain areas and less populated areas and it will also be adopted in the city as per the requirements. Besides this, the corporation will also establish 22 new parks under the Green Space development project of the scheme and the respective councillors will be asked to propose the land where the parks can be established in their wards. The said proposal will be presented in the board meeting for approval and subsequently sent for state administration’s approval. Besides this, the officials will start the work of providing all households in the urban areas with tap water connection from April which must be completed by the year 2026 under AMRUT 2.0. Kathaith also informed that the teams have also started installation of water meters in Hathibarkala area and will also use Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that can monitor how many litres of water is generally used in households.
