CBFC chief suggests hosting three-day festival on State’s culture, folk arts & literature

Stating that Uttarakhand is also the land of culture, literature and art, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has stressed on facilitating the extension of these streams. He said that there is need to take forward the idea of establishing a film city in the State. He said that possibilities for Sahitya and Lalik Kala Kendras in Uttarakhand should also be looked into so that the youth get a chance to link with films along with literature, folk culture and folk arts. The chief minister said this during an interaction with the Central Board of Film Certification chairman Prasoon Joshi at the secretariat on Tuesday. The duo had discussions on aspects related to encouraging film production, music, drama, culture and literature in the State in the presence of officials.

Dhami said that in addition to its spiritual importance and picturesque destinations, Uttarakhand also has a rich cultural heritage. He stressed on the need for efforts to enable the youth to become carriers of the State’s cultural traditions. He directed that the cultural centre and museum under construction should be given a final shape soon and that a system should be ensured for its effective utilisation. Focus should also be laid on organising such events which help in establishing the State’s identity in India and abroad. The crores of people who visit Uttarakhand will also become connected with the State’s culture, arts and folk traditions through such efforts, he added.

Joshi opined that along with film production, Uttarakhand has possibilities in its cultural identity. Considering the future, the establishment of a film institute will enable the youth to connect with different aspects of film production and become acquainted with innovations in the sector. He also suggested that a three-day festival should be organised to give an elaborate form to the State’s folk culture, folk music, drama and literature. He said that the participation of people in these spheres living in India and abroad will make the event elaborate and help in linking people to their culture.

Special principal secretary Abhinav Kumar, Information director general Banshidhar Tiwari, Culture director Beena Bhatt, Information deputy director Nitin Upadhyaya and other officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
