The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar on Thursday personally went to meet an 85-year-old super senior citizen Sumangala Devi in the Dalanwala area who was being allegedly harassed by her children. She is the sister of a retired DIG in Lucknow who contacted the SSP regarding her condition. He told him that Sumangla Devi, who cannot even walk properly, has five children but none of them reportedly take care of her and instead harass and torture her in various ways on a daily basis.

When the SSP ordered the Dalanwala police in-charge to investigate the matter, it was revealed that the victim has five children including four sons and a daughter. The investigation revealed that one of her sons, Rajesh lives in his mother’s house along with his own family but allegedly does not take care of his mother. He also allegedly does not let her meet with her son Harish and daughter Seema who are ready to take care of her, as per the officials. After the intervention of the police, Rajesh left his mother’s home and is living somewhere else on rent, said the officials. They said that Harish is now living with his mother and Seema can meet her mother anytime she wants.

The SSP on Thursday met Sumangala Devi and asked her to consider him her son.  He also gave her his number and requested to contact him if she faces any kind of trouble.  He also directed the police in-charge to stay in touch with her to provide every possible help.
