SPECS honours 100 citizens as water guardians

With over three decades of work Dehradun based Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS) honoured as many as 100 citizens for their contribution towards conservation of water and ensuring its purity.
“Jal Sey Kifayat” campaign of SPECS was also launched by environmentalist and Paani Rakho Andolan leader Sachidanand Bharti on the occasion. A Jal Shakti app was also launched at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Bharti praised SPECS for its efforts towards conservation of water and also ensuring its quality. He said the entire world today was facing the water challenges. He in particular referred to the South African city of Cape Town that has been declared as a city “without water” as it has no more drinking water left.
Addressing the gathering, scientist and former director general of Uttarakhand State Council of for Science and Technology, Rajendra Dobhal referred to SPECS role in ensuring widespread awareness in the society towards water conservation. He said due to persistent efforts of SPECS, the water quality scenario has considerably improved in the region.
Environmentalist Ravi Chopra spoke about the importance of good quality water for human consumption. He said the time has come for the society to understand the significance of water conservation for humanity.
SPECS secretary Brijmohan Sharma informed the gathering about the journey of SPECS in the last three decades. He referred in particular to the water testing campaign being conducted by SPECS year after year. He said the campaign has specifically sensitised the general masses on importance of quality water.
