Rs 65,000 refunded to cyber crime victims

The Pauri district police cyber cell has refunded Rs 65,000 in the accounts of three victims of online frauds. On the instructions of the Pauri senior superintendent of police, P Renuka Devi to sort out the cyber crime cases, the cyber cell in-charge inspector Vijay Singh, sub inspector Rafat Ali and three constables took swift action in the three cases.

According to the police, Kotdwar resident Subash Chandra Dhasmana in his complaint had stated that an unknown person giving his identity as an army man, had defrauded him online of Rs 43,000. The cyber cell refunded Rs 40,000 in Dhasmana’s account. Dhumakot resident Sohan Singh had complained that an unknown person had duped him of Rs 31,998 online, the police managed to get Rs 10,000 refunded.

On the complaint of Kotdwar resident Sumit Verma that an unknown person taking information of bank account, had duped him of Rs 40,000, the cyber cell facilitated the refunding of Rs 15,000 to Verma’s account. Considering the rise in cases of cyber crimes, the police have appealed to all citizens to desist from sharing account details, OTPs and other important information with callers on the phone.
