Reopening of schools: Edu minister holds discussions with parents & teachers

Cabinet to take a final call on October 14- Pandey. Parents association knock on the doors of the human rights commission.

The education minister Arvind Pandey interacted with teachers and parents on Friday and held discussion on reopening of the schools. In the discussions more than seven thousand teachers and parents of students took part. The minister and senior officials of the department held online interactions from the virtual classroom studio at Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya Vidhyalaya. After the online meeting, the minister said that the suggestions of the parents and teachers would be placed before the state cabinet on October 14. He clarified that the final decision on opening of the schools would be taken by the state cabinet. The union government in its guidelines has mentioned that the schools can be opened in a phased manner from October 15. It however has allowed the states to take the decision as per the situation of pandemic.

Meanwhile the parents have decided to knock at the doors of Uttarakhand human rights commission. The President of the National Association for Parents and Students Rights (NAPSR) Arif Khan said that parents are shocked by the set of preconditions placed by the private school owners for opening of schools. He said that the school owners are demanding written assurance from the parents that the school would not be held responsible if their children contract Covid-19. Khan said that in the condition no one is ready to take responsibility for the safety of students; the parents are not prepared to send their wards to the schools.
