In an attempt to minimise all risk factors that can worsen the conditions of the city during monsoon, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika has directed the officials concerned to remove all dilapidated electricity poles and trees that can cause accidents. She also directed the respective municipal bodies to regularly clean the drains and take action against those who throw garbage in the open areas that choke drains leading to waterlogged roads.

The DM held a meeting with the representatives of various departments on Monday to review the action plan prepared at the district level to tackle issues like waterlogging and possible accidents and disasters. The DM recently appointed zonal officers and sector officers across the city to ensure immediate action can be taken against monsoon-related issues. She has directed the officials to work on all factors like potholes on the road, blocked drains, hanging wires, dilapidated electric poles and damaged water pipelines that can cause a nuisance for the public.

She directed the sector officers to make temporary drains at places with poor or no drainage systems to prevent waterlogging in their respective areas. She directed the officials to ensure no debris accumulates on roads and that all bushes near roads are cut down. She also directed executive bodies like the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to remove construction materials from construction sites.

She also directed the district disaster management officer to prepare a review report of work done in each sector of the city. She also instructed the officials of the department concerned to remove the hanging electric wires and arrange the electric lines and other wires hanging on the electric poles in coordination with the department concerned. She asked the zonal and sector officers to conduct regular inspections to know what they need to work on to improve the situation.
