Register all students in e- Granthalaya: Minister

All the students enrolled in the colleges and universities of the State would now have to compulsorily register themselves in the e- Granthalayas (digital libraries). The higher education minister Dhan Singh Rawat made this announcement while addressing the inaugural session of three day workshop on e- Granthalaya  at Doon university on Thursday.  He said that the coming time is about digital education and we should also prepare and update us for it. The workshop is being organised under joint aegis of the Higher education department and NIC government of India.

 The minister said that e- Granthalayas have been established in all the government universities and colleges and more than 21 Lakh books are available in it but the number of students reading them is very less. Rawat directed that they should ensure 100 per cent registration of all the students studying in the government educational institutes. The minister added that apart from modern digital facility of cataloguing the students can avail the benefit of the books of libraries of other colleges and universities, research papers and others in the e granthalayas. He warned that the Principal and the librarian concerned would be responsible if the work of registration of all the students is not accomplished.

The minister said that soon new books as per the curriculum of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 and the research papers of different subject experts would be uploaded in the e granthalayas. He said that there are thousands of books in the libraries of different colleges which have become obsolete and their content is out of syllabus now. The minister said that less than one time settlements scheme such books would be handed over to public libraries or other individuals who need them. New books which are in sync with the syllabus would be purchased.

 The meeting was attended by the Dharampur MLA Vinod Chamoli, advisor Rashtriya Uchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), MSM Rawat, K D Purohit, additional secretaries Prashant Arya, MM Semwal, director higher education Jagdish Prasad and others were present on the occasion.
