The presentation of silk shawls and topis by the Uttarakhand Silk Federation (USF) to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister during the recently held global investors summit has enhanced the visibility of the brand, said the manager of USF Matabar Kandari.

He further said that his organisation has been producing silk products since 2017. “Initially, we faced challenges in sourcing raw materials, but with time, it has become easy for us to acquire the necessary materials. This is facilitating the production process now,” he said.

Kandari said that the primary objective of producing silk products in the State is to create employment opportunities for the locals. “To raise awareness about these silk products, we presented shawls and topis to the PM and the Union Home Minister at the global investors summit and this has led to an indirect enhancement of visibility and reputation of our products. These promotional initiatives will not just help enhance the brand profile but also lead to the expansion and diversification of its product range,” he said

He said that the collection of sarees has also received appreciation from women across the State. “The combination of traditional Pahari caps and shawls with the modern designs and styles of sarees has been a hit, attracting the attention and appreciation of fashion lovers and cultural connoisseurs alike,” he said and added that the blend of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary appeal has established Doon Silk as a brand that captures the essence of heritage and modernity.

Commenting on the silk production in the State, the State Cooperative minister Dhan Singh Rawat said on Wednesday, “The recognition received from the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister has enhanced Doon Silk’s position in the fashion and textile industry. In addition to attracting consumers, the brand has also thrown up opportunities for collaboration, partnership and market expansion. This increased visibility and enhanced traction portend well for the future of the brand and the Uttarakhand Silk Federation as a whole.”
