Police arrest two thieves with 10 stolen vehicles

The Dehradun police arrested two members of an interstate gang allegedly involved in stealing several two-wheeler vehicles in the district. The police have recovered 10 vehicles worth nearly Rs 10 lakh so far, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar. He said that some persons had filed complaints in the Premnagar police station about their stolen two-wheeler vehicles. Considering the recent increase in such cases in the area, a case was registered against unknown culprits and different teams were formed under the supervision of superintendent of police (Crime) Sarvesh Panwar and SP (City) Sarita Dobhal.

The SSP said, “The teams inspected the crime spots and found some CCTV footage in which both accused could be seen stealing the vehicles. The teams analysed footage of about 350 CCTV cameras installed in the nearby areas and found that the accused had reconnoitred the area a few days before stealing the vehicles. The police got the photos of both accused from the footage and activated the informer system to locate the accused.” He said that the police team conducted a checking campaign in Premnagar and the nearby area late on Sunday night.  They arrested two accused identified as Sandeep Kataria (31) and Naved (19) in the wee hours of Monday.

He said that Kataria is a labourer and Naved is a mechanic who were currently living in Dalanwala and Selaqui areas respectively. “Kataria said that they started stealing vehicles and selling their parts to meet their expenses and earn quick money. He has also been arrested and sent to jail by Sahaspur police under the Arms Act. The police recovered a total of 10 stolen vehicles on the basis of the information provided by them. The police working on figuring out their criminal history. A cash prize of Rs 5,000 will be awarded to the investigation team for nabbing the accused in time,” said the SSP.
