In latest news from Dehradun, the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) is all set to invite Expression of Interest (EOI) for setting up helipads or heliports in the mountainous areas of the State. The State government sources in the know said that a new policy on this matter has been launched under which anyone having lands can set up helipads on his own or in partnership with the government. UCADA sources further said that after EOIs are received, they would select the places where the new helipads would be set up to facilitate air service across the State. The government’s plan to set up helipads at multiple locations hit land acquisition-related roadblocks as the lands earmarked for the purpose were found to be forest lands. This is why the State government has decided to allow private players to set up helipads. Under the new policy, one can set up the same in his own land or on the land taken on lease from others, including the government with provision of 50 per cent subsidy from the government. Speaking of the matter, the chief executive officer, UCADA C Ravi Shankar said that some persons had evinced interest in setting up helipads and heliports in the State and taking note of this, UCADA is all set to invite EORs after marking lands.
