The police arrested Safia Malik, the wife of the prime accused of the Haldwani’s Vanbhulpura violence Abdul Malik from Bareilly on Wednesday. She was absconding since the Municipal Corporation of Haldwani (MCH) registered an FIR against her for conspiracy and land fraud. The Haldwani assistant municipal commissioner Ganesh Bhatt filed the complaint against Safia on February 22. According to his complaint, Safia had allegedly presented a dead man alive in documents and used his name for illegal plotting, illegal construction and illegal transfer of land in Haldwani’s Company Bagh area. According to the complainant, she was also part of a criminal conspiracy and misled the court and government departments by presenting fake affidavits and documents.

The police registered an FIR against Safia in Haldwani Kotwali and started investigating the matter. The two prime accused in the Vanbhulpura violence case- Safiya’s husband Abdul Malik and their son Abdul Moed were also absconding when an FIR was registered against her in February. However, the police arrested the father- son duo a few days later but failed to track Safia. She was allegedly involved in several illicit activities of her husband. The Nainital senior superintendent of police Prahlad Narayan Meena said that the police teams were working to track Safiya for the past several weeks. They finally nabbed her from Bareilly. She will be soon presented in the court and the police will take further action accordingly, he added.
