Pickup driver caught with 116 kgs of ganja

The police nabbed a man and recovered 116.6 kilogrammes of ganja from him during a checking drive in the Rikhanikhal police station area of Pauri district on Sunday.  The police stopped a pickup on suspicion following which three persons in the vehicle ran away from the spot.

The police checked the vehicle and found 13 plastic bags were kept in an additional compartment prepared by welding in the goods space of the vehicle. The police arrested the driver and stepped up the search for the three absconding accused. The Pauri senior superintendent of police announced a cash award of Rs 2,500 for the police team involved in the bust. This is the second recovery of illegal ganja in the remote area of the district within the duration of four days. Previously, the Thalisain police team had arrested two persons with ganja on Thursday.

The police informed that the police team constituted by the additional superintendent of police Jaya Baloni on the instruction of senior superintendent of police was conducting a checking drive on Sunday. They stopped a pickup vehicle for checking after which three persons ran away from the vehicle.

The police recovered 116 kilogrammes of ganja and arrested the driver identified as Rajesh Kala of Kotdwar. According to the police, the cost of the recovered contraband is about Rs five lakh. The police registered a case under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are now searching for the three men who ran away from the vehicle.
