Pauri police get Rs 1.15 lakh refunded to online fraud victims

Solving an online fraud the Pauri district police cyber cell has recovered Rs 1,15,730  out of the Rs 2,08,475 which was siphoned out by fraudsters from the bank accounts of five persons.On the directions of the Pauri  senior superindentent of police Jaswant Singh Chauhan the cyber cell acted on five complaints in the duration of two weeks. According to the police, Kotdwar resident Manwar Singh Rawat lodged complaint that unknown person had defrauded him online of Rs 25,000 from his account, acting on which the police got the entire amount refunded to his account. Acting on complaints of Nafees Ahmed Ansari and Deepak Singh regarding cyber fraud of Rs 25,000 and Rs 39,990 respectively, the cyber cell was able to get Rs 44,990 refunded to the accounts of the complainants. On the complaint of another Kotdwar resident Swikriti Rani the police got the whole defrauded amount of Rs 25,000 refunded, while on the complaint of Deepa about an online fraud amounting to Rs 94,485 the police got Rs 20,740 refunded to her account. It is pertinent to mention here that Pauri district is witnessing a rise in cases of cyber crime despite the awareness campaign conducted by the police from time to time. Pauri district Police have told the citizens that they should desist from sharing bank account details, OTP, CVV with unknown persons. Citizens should not click any link of unknown job offer and scan QR code from unknown sources.
