Over 21K cases were settled in National Lok Adalat in Uttarakhand

A total of 21,596 cases were settled in the recent National Lok Adalat organised by the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) in various courts of Uttarakhand on the directions of the National Legal Services Authority and the orders of senior justice of Uttarakhand High Court and the executive chairman of the SLSA, Manoj Kumar Tiwari.

The officials said that the National Lok Adalat was organised in 13 districts constituting a total of 108 benches in the district courts, family courts, labour courts and consumer courts, among others to amicably settle the cases pending in courts or at the pre-litigation stage. According to the officials, the cases are settled mutually between the parties in Lok Adalats and the decision taken there cannot be challenged afterwards which gives a sense of security to both parties. Out of a total 25,339 cases referred in various courts of all districts under the recently held Lok Adalat, a total of 21,596 cases were settled. The officials said that a total of 11,924 cases were settled in litigation and their total settlement amount was Rs 22.57 crore. Besides this, 21 cases of debt recovery and 13 cases in consumer court were settled for amount Rs 15.35 crore and Rs 12.48 lakh respectively.

According to the officials, the 3,722 cases were settled in Udham Singh Nagar for a total amount of Rs 14.69 crore. Besides this, 134 cases were settled in Almora, 75 cases in Bageshwar and 95 cases in Champawat for a total amount of Rs 1.64 crore, Rs 33.3 lakh and Rs 55.2 lakh respectively. A total of 667 cases were settled in Nainital and 198 cases in Pithoragarh for Rs 6.4 crore and Rs 1.38 crore respectively. A total of 1,782 cases were settled in Haridwar, 1,721 cases in Dehradun and 530 cases in Pauri for Rs 11.9 crore, Rs 15.8 crore and Rs 1.2 crore respectively. Besides this, 364 cases were settled in Tehri for Rs 3.1 crore, 212 cases in Uttarkashi for Rs1.4 crore, 85 cases  in Rudraprayag for Rs 81.4 lakh and 54 cases were settled in Chamoli for Rs 86.6 lakh. A total of 21,596 cases were settled in this Lok Adalat for Rs 98.48 crore, as per officials.
