Orange alert- heavy to very heavy rain likely in parts of 8 districts today

The State meteorological centre has issued an orange alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Nainital, Champawat, Tehri, Pauri, Dehradun, Haridwar, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Tuesday. Further, thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/intense to very intense spells are likely to occur at isolated places in the State today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are very likely to occur at most places in the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness partly to generally cloudy sky. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur, one or two of which may be heavy/intense in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 28 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

Meanwhile, the advent of monsoon in the State has caused a noticeable drop in the maximum temperatures in Dehradun and other parts of the State. In Dehradun, the maximum temperature dropped three degrees from normal on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Monday were 29.2 degrees Celsius and 23.2 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 34.3 degrees Celsius and 24.4 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 22 degrees Celsius and 15.6 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 23.9 degrees Celsius and 16.2 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light to moderate rain was reported in various parts with 5.2 millimetres in Dehradun, 37.5 millimetres in Bhagwanpur, 31 millimetres in Yamkeshwar, 23 millimetres in Kalsi, 17.5 millimetres in Lansdowne and 16 millimetres in Vikasnagar.
