New train flagged off between Kotdwar and Delhi

Sunday, 29 October 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The new train between Kotdwar and Anand Vihar terminal was flagged off on Saturday. Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni flagged off the train from Delhi while chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami did the same virtually from Dehradun.

Dhami thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for the new rail service between Kotdwar and Delhi. He also appreciated the efforts of Garhwal MP and former CM Tirath Singh Rawat, Baluni and Kotdwar MLA Ritu Khanduri. The CM said that the demand for the operation of a train between Kotdwar and Delhi was being raised for a long time. With the flagging off of the new train service on Saturday, people now have the option of using either the bus or the train service to travel conveniently between these two destinations. Dhami also requested Vaishnaw to consider naming this train after Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali so that the people can connect more to the train. “During the past nine years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi work on railways has been executed at an unprecedented speed and scale. We are moving towards the golden era of the Indian Railways under PM Modi. The railway is being prepared to meet the aspirations of a new India and fulfill the expectations for an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” the CM said.

Dhami further appreciated the fact that made in India trains like Vande Bharat, which signify self-reliance and modernity, are becoming part of the rail network. The task of connecting the untouched parts of the nation by rail is also underway. Under PM Modi’s guidance and the support of the Central government, many such works have been done in Uttarakhand which appeared impossible in the past. The dream of bringing the rail to the mountains is about to be fulfilled with the completion of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project under Modi’s leadership, said Dhami. He credited the clear vision of the PM for the swift pace of the work on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail project.

It is pertinent to mention here that this new train service is expected to benefit the people of Uttarakhand considerably, especially those in the mountainous regions of Garhwal. The service will also benefit people in Delhi where a considerable number of Uttarakhand natives reside.
