NDA’s Presidential candidate Murmu seeks support of U’khand MPs, legislators

The Presidential candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Draupadi Murmu received a warm welcome from the leaders of BJP in Dehradun on Monday. Murmu (64), a native of tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district of Odisha is on a nationwide tour to garner support for her candidature in the presidential election and her visit to Uttarakhand on Monday was part of this programme. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed Murmu at Dehradun airport on her arrival. The Union cabinet minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat accompanied the NDA’s presidential candidate.  She was welcomed by a tribal troupe at the airport. The representatives of Jaunsari, Tharu, Boxa and other tribes of Uttarakhand also met Murmu at the airport.

Murmu then went to the statehood martyrs memorial situated at Dehradun collectorate where she offered her tributes to the martyrs of the statehood movement. She then met the Members of Parliament and MLAs of the State at the camp office of the CM at his residence. The BJP State president Madan Kaushik said that apart from all 47 MLAs of the BJP, an appeal for support for Murmu has been made to the MLAs of BSP in Uttarakhand and two independent MLAs. The independent MLA from Khanpur Umesh Kumar and the Yamunotri MLA Sanjay Dobhal were also present in the CM’s residence to extend their support to Murmu for the post of President of India.

The speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly Ritu Khanduri, the State in-charge of the BJP Dushyant Gautam, co in-charge Rekha Verma, Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank, Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni, MP Ajay Tamta, all the ministers of Dhami cabinet and MLAs were present on the occasion.
