Accusing the BJP government of deliberately ignoring former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that the programme organised by the Modi government in Delhi to commemorate victory of Indian forces in Bangladesh war has no mention of Indira Gandhi. Addressing a well attended Vijay Samman rally at Parade Ground here on Thursday, Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi government of dividing the country and destroying the economy. He said that India could win the Bangladesh war in only 13 days because every Indian was firmly united and because Pakistan was a divided country. Gandhi said that it is a matter of great concern that today the people are being pitted against one another and the weak are getting pulverized. All this is weakening the country. He added that measures such as demonetisation, wrong GST and tax waiver to big industrialists during the Covid-19 pandemic has jolted the economy. Gandhi said that only two- three big industrialists are prospering in the country at the cost of the small and medium industries. He said that the farmers of the country unitedly and firmly opposed the draconian farm laws which forced the PM to withdraw them. He said though the PM sought apology from the farmers, his government stated that no farmer died during the agitation. “I showed a list in the parliament of 400 farmers identified by the Punjab government and 70 farmers of Haryana who lost their lives but the government is not acknowledging it,’’ he said.

Continuing his attack on the BJP government, Gandhi said that airports, ports, roads and mines are being sold only to benefit two- three industrialists. He said that while the international prices of crude are down the petrol and diesel prices in India are increasing. He said that India imposes maximum tax on the petrol in the world and as a result of which Rs 10 lakh crore were snatched from the pocket of people of the country and this money was used to waive off the loans of the billionaire friends. He claimed that these industrialist friends are engaged in image building of PM Modi. Giving an example of this Gandhi said that recently such an environment was created that only one person has taken bath in holy Ganga and no one else. He said that no one including Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Defence minister Rajnath Singh was allowed to take a dip in Ganga when Modi was taking a bath.
