Considering the persistent requests from hockey players for a dedicated training ground, the Sports department has decided to construct a mini-hockey field at the Pavilion Ground. District Sports Officer Nidhi Binjola informed that there has been a consistent demand from hockey players for a district-level mini-hockey ground in Dehradun for the past few years. The existing 11-a-side hockey ground at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Raipur area is not suitable for practice purposes. Further, this ground is situated within the college premises, leaving the players without a separate hockey ground in Doon. Taking all these factors into consideration, the Sports department has granted approval for the establishment of a mini five-a-side hockey ground at the Pavilion Ground, she added.

Regarding the construction of an astroturf mini-hockey ground at the Pavilion Ground she said that the formalities for establishing this ground have been successfully concluded. Currently, the ground is being leveled as part of the initial phase of the project. Further, approximately Rs four crore has been allocated for the construction of the said ground, she added.

Binjola further said that the purpose of building this ground is to enable hockey players to practice the sport in the city. Additionally, the ground will serve as a venue for various training camps and state-level hockey competitions. She stated that it is anticipated that the construction of the ground will be finished within a year.
