Married couples reconciled in 801 cases in 2023 through Women Helpline

The police via the Women Helpline facilitated the reconciliation of married couples in 801 cases out of a total of 1,501 cases in the Dehradun district. The police are also presenting a memento to those couples who reconcile and decide to stay together with mutual consent after the counselling provided via the Women Helpline, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that when the police receive complaints through the helpline related to women or family disputes, both parties are called for counselling. The officials involved in counselling make efforts that both parties work to make their relationship work rather than focussing on minor issues that can be resolved easily. If both parties fail to reach a settlement at this stage, their case is tackled by the voluntary bureau.

Informing about a case, SSP said that the police received a case through the Women Helpline in which the woman had differences with her husband and his family because his widowed sister was living with them and apparently, the family gave her more importance. The couple has been married for two years and the woman’s only issue was that her widowed sister- in- law gets more attention from the family. The nodal officer and circle officer of the police of the Premnagar areas took cognisance of the matter and listened to the side of both parties. He made them realise the importance of mutual harmony between husband and wife to move ahead in life along with the family members. Both parties realised their mistakes and decided to live together to give their relationship another chance. Singh said that the police reunited about 1,602 families last year in 801 cases out of 1,501 cases. Besides this, the police have also helped reconciliation between 84 families in 42 cases so far this year via the Women Helpline, he added.
