A man died on Sunday morning after his vehicle fell into a 250 metre gorge near the Adi Badri route in Chamoli district.
The man identified as Birendra Singh Rawat (44) was going from Karnprayag to Gairsain when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, said the officials. According to them, the district control room called the rescue team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to carry out a search operation at the accident site. The SDRF team descended into the gorge with a rope and reached the vehicle. The team found that only one person was in the vehicle who had died on the spot.
The officials said that the SDRF retrieved the body with the help of the police and locals and brought it to the main road via an alternate route. They handed it over to the police who will hand it over to the deceased’s family after completing necessary procedures, said officials. They said that though no foul play appears to be involved, action will be taken in the matter as per the post mortem and other reports.
