Maharaj directs special probe in Suryadhar project

No type of negligence or irregularity will be tolerated in the construction of the Suryadhar barrage which is the dream project of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. The State’s Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj said this while issuing written orders to the irrigation secretary for a special probe in this project.

The reply provided by the department in response to the report sought by the administration has revealed anomalies at various levels in the construction of Suryadhar project. Considering this, the minister has ordered a special investigation in the project. He stated that compared to the estimated project cost of Rs 1,837.34 lakh, a sum of Rs 4,100 lakh had been spent so far and possibility more will have to be spent. He has also questioned other aspects like raising the height of the barrage. He also said that when departmental works are executed on the basis of departmental schedule of rates, how and why were the market rates included is also not clear in evaluation of the tender rates.
