Amid the ongoing allegations and counter allegations leveled by some party leaders, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said the statements of some senior leaders would damage the party in the upcoming Panchayat elections and next year’s parliamentary elections. In a statement Mahara said that the leaders should put their views in the party forum only. He said that the party suffered from the similar statements of the leaders in the Champawat by-elections also.  He said that the appointments of the district and Mahanagar presidents in the party have been done after consultation with all senior leaders of the party. He said that responsibility to the youngsters is given as per the Jodhpur declaration of the party. He said that no one is above the party. Without naming the former PCC president Pritam Singh, the PCC president said that some leaders who could not even tour the State when the opportunity was given to them are now engaging in politics of allegation and counter allegation. Mahara said that this tendency of some leaders meant the party was not able to return back to power in the State in the year 2022.

He said that the workers of the party participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Rahul Gandhi and after its huge success the Hath Se Hath Jodo Yatra is being organised in the State. The PCC president said that the statements of the leaders affect the morale of the workers and dent the image of the party.

The tough stance of the PCC president assumes significance in the wake of the recent statements of former PCC president Pritam Singh and senior leader Tilak Raj Behed. Singh on Tuesday had attacked the in-charge of Uttarakhand Congress, Devendra Yadav by stating that he is taking decisions without consulting anyone. He said that the in charge of the party has remained away from the State after the Vidhan Sabha elections and added that some politically mature person should be in his place. Kiccha MLA Behed had stated recently that factionalism was the major cause of defeat of Congress in Vidhan Sabha elections of 2022. He also raised question on regional imbalance in Uttarakhand Congress by stating that all three important positions, the PCC president, the leader of opposition (LoP) in state assembly and deputy leader in State assembly are being occupied by the leaders from Kumaon region and the party has neglected the Garhwal region.
