Large stretches of NH-707 cave in at two places near Kempty following heavy rain

In latest Uttarakhand news, with the relentless rain pounding Uttarakhand, large stretches of the National Highway 707 near Kempty caved in at two places. While around 30- metre stretch of the highway near the petrol pump in Kempty caved in another 20- metre stretch was damaged near the Santura Devi temple on the Kempty Road.  The locals demanded immediate repair of the damaged stretches of this key NH. A former member of the block panchayat of Siya village near Kempty Rajendra Singh said that with most of the culverts on highway being blocked, the rain water was flowing right on the road. He further said that with cracks surfacing on the road, this highway might incur further damages in the coming days and if this happens the Yamunotri Yatra via Mussoorie-Kempty route might be affected. The assistant engineer of the National Highway 707 Anil Kumar Bisht said that cracks had surfaced on the highway in the past but due to the rain, a pillar had fallen. He assured that the damages would be fixed at the earliest.
