Khanduri directs officials to check spread of lumpy skin disease

With more than 800 cattle reported to be afflicted by lumpy skin disease in Kotdwar and the Bhabar region of Pauri district, the Kotdwar MLA and Vidhan Sabha speaker Ritu Khanduri held a meeting with veterinary officers in Kotdwar on Saturday. Khanduri instructed the animal husbandry department to speed up vaccination and other measures to check the spread of the disease.

Dr BM Gupta from the veterinary hospital in Kotdwar informed her a large number of cattle in the Kotdwar and Bhabar region have been afflicted by the disease. After identifying the virus afflicting the animals, the department has started their treatment and is undertaking vaccination on a war footing to prevent the disease from spreading further. Khanduri directed the department officials to remain alert and raise public awareness about the virus and disease in all areas. If sources are to be believed, cattle in the Rikhnikhal area are also exhibiting symptoms of being afflicted by lumpy skin disease.
