The chairperson of Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has asked the director general of police Ashok Kumar and the senior/superintendents of police of all the districts to take strict action in cases of love Jihad in the state. She sent a letter to the DGP and the district police chiefs seeking effective action in such cases. The chairperson of the commission further asked the police to take action against tenants in all sensitive places in the State in case of violations, along with ensuring proper verification. Further Kandwal in the letter asked the DGP to conduct a serious investigation into such matters and also inform the commission about the report of the investigation as soon as possible. She issued these directions after taking cognisance of a considerable number of alleged love Jihad which have come to light in recent months from different parts of the State.

Regarding the increase in alleged love Jihad cases in the State Kandwal said, “The love Jihad cases coming to the fore at an alarming frequency in the State is really a matter of concern. It is shameful to have cases like love Jihad in Devbhoomi or any part of India.”

She further stressed that the accused in such cases will not be spared, adding that strict action as per the law will be taken against them.
