Justice Ritu Bahri becomes first woman Chief Justice of U’khand High Court

Ritu Bahri took oath of office as the first woman chief justice of Uttarakhand High Court on Sunday. The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh administered the oath to her at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan.

Born on October 11, 1962, chief justice Bahri was first enrolled as an advocate in 1986. She practiced at Punjab and Haryana High Court in civil, constitutional, taxation, labour and service matters. Her field of specialisation is service and tax matters. She was appointed as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August 2010 and as a permanent judge in February 2012. She is due to retire on October 10, 2024.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the governor’s wife Gurmit Kaur, cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj and Dhan Singh Rawat, MP Naresh Bansal, chief secretary Radha Raturi, officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar, additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, Uttarakhand High Court registrar general Ashish Naithani and others were also present during the swearing-in ceremony.
