The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is all set to reopen Gandhi Park from today after keeping it closed for over two months. The corporation had closed the park in April when the State Government imposed a Covid curfew due to a rise in Covid-19 positive patients. Since the number of covid cases has declined considerably in the city in the last few weeks, the MCD has decided to open Gandhi Park while following Covid norms. As informed by Dehradun mayor, Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’, he has issued orders to properly clean and sanitise the park before reopening it for the public. He said that some local residents recently requested him to approve the reopening of Gandhi Park for early morning and evening walks. Since the covid situation is also stable in the city, MCD decided to allow the entry of public in the park for certain hours a day, stated the mayor. According to him, the park will be open for the public for three hours in the morning and two hours in the evening from 6 AM to 9 AM and 6 PM to 8 PM respectively. Informing further, the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said that it will be mandatory to wear masks and maintain social distancing inside the park. Besides this, every person will have to pass through thermal screening before entering the Park, stated Pandey. “We have allowed general public’s entry in the park for limited hours a day considering many requests of locals. I appeal to people to follow Covid-19 guidelines and take precautions to stay safe at public places,” said Pandey.

He also disclosed that the open gym and the children park section in Gandhi Park will remain prohibited for public use to minimise the risk of Covid contagion till further orders. Besides this, the officials informed that the musical fountain will also be open for the public during the evenings from the next week.
