After four children were charred to death with four cylinders having exploded one after another in a four-storey house in Tuni in Dehradun district, the Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to each of the deceased’s families. Besides, the district magistrate Dehradun Sonika has suspended the Naib-Tehsildar for negligence of duty during the rescue operation. The DM has met the relatives of those killed in the fire incident. It is learnt that rescue operations by SDRF have been going on. Till the time of receiving the last report, the SDRF team has remained engaged in finding and extricating the bodies of two children from the charred debris of the house.

The fire broke out after a cylinder exploded in the house. Thereafter three more cylinders exploded one after another and the house was fully gutted. Four children were burnt alive in the fierce fire. The fire was so fierce that it took the fire brigade team and the villagers long time to extinguish mainly because of the non-availability of  sufficient water in the fire department vehicles. It is learnt that the fire broke out when a cylinder was being changed.
