Focus on legacy plan for sports infrastructure during hosting of National Games: CS

 The chief secretary Radha Raturi has said that Uttarakhand has got a golden opportunity to establish itself as a world class host for green sports and green tourism by successfully organising the 38th National Games. She chaired a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) constituted for 38th National Games at the State secretariat on Friday.

Addressing the meeting the CS said that emphasis should be laid on a legacy plan for the long-term development of sports infrastructure and sports facilities in Uttarakhand along with the hosting of the National Games.

In the HPC, the CS was informed that  80 per cent work related to infrastructure development for the proposed National Games has been completed.

 She said that the sports facilities and sports infrastructure should be developed in such a way that the players and youth of the state can take advantage of these facilities for a long time in the future and sports spirit and sports culture develop in the state. 

In the meeting the CS also gave an instruction to link the proposed National Games in the state with the anti drugs campaign, green National Games and the campaign to develop sports culture in the state.  

Emphasising the concept of organizing the games as Green National Games, the Chief Secretary suggested that recycled medals should be used in these games.  She opined that the officers can donate  the mementos received by them for the purpose. 

 The CS also gave instructions that the stadiums and sports venues for the proposed National Games should be developed on the green and self-sustainable concept.  She said that solar lights should be installed in the stadiums and venues of the event with the help of Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA).

Raturi directed the officers of the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve the roads of the State in view of the National Games. 

 She added that special attention to provide and maintain the internet facilities should be done during the organization of National Games.

 The special principal secretary of sports and youth welfare Amit Sinha, secretary Shailesh Bagauli and the officers of the sports department were present in the meeting.
