Stating that 72 hours before the start of the assembly elections are extremely critical and crucial, the special expenditure observer of the state Madhu Mahajan, appointed by Election Commission of India (ECI), directed the returning officers (ROs) of Dehradun to increase the surveillance in border areas of the district.

In a review meeting on Wednesday, district magistrate and electoral officer R Rajesh Kumar and expenditure observers Navneet Manohar and Dilip Kumar reviewed the monitoring report of expenditure of the candidates provided by respective ROs along with Mahajan. The observers directed ROs to identify such areas in their respective assembly constituencies where cash, liquor or other things can affect the election and send Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and State Surveillance Teams (SSTs) there for surveillance.

They directed them to increase the security teams at the inter-state border check posts to conduct thorough checking of the vehicles. Mahajan also directed the officers to increase the number of SSTs and FSTs and exercise caution 72 hours before the commencement of polling.
