The police will not allow the entry of those devotees in the State who ride their motorbikes after removing silencers to participate in the Kanwad Yatra which has commenced in the State. Such pilgrims will be stopped in the border areas and the police will act against them by seizing their respective vehicles apart from imposing hefty challans, said the director general of police Ashok Kumar. He said that a large number of devotees that participate in the Kanwad Yatra travel on motorbikes, most of which are youngsters. He said that the police have observed that many such devotees remove the silencers of their motorbikes which increases the possibility of it catching fire in summer. He said that one such accident happened last year where the pilgrim’s motorbike caught fire because he had reportedly removed its silencer. “Such carelessness can cause fatal accidents and we always advise people to not remove the silencers of motorbikes. This is the first time we have decided to not let such pilgrims enter the State or respective districts who want to be part of Kanwar Yatra,” added DGP. He said that the police will also act against modified silencers installed in two-wheeler vehicles. Kumar said that it is certainly a big challenge to complete the Yatra successfully without any untoward incidents but the police have made all preparations to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Yatra.
